On May 11 and 12, 2026, Nairobi hosted the “Africa Forward” Summit, organized by Bpifrance, Business France, and Proparco, under the high patronage of French President Emmanuel Macron and Kenyan President William Ruto. The summit brought together public officials, investors, entrepreneurs, and thought leaders committed to the economic transformation of the African continent.
On May 11, Pascal Lorot, President of the Institut Choiseul, moderated the panel discussion “From Political Discourse to Concrete Industrialisation”, dedicated to a decisive question: how can political ambitions be transformed into factories, jobs, infrastructure, and African industrial champions?
As African countries continue to emerge as increasingly influential players in the new global economic order, this issue has become central. The panel brought together:
Their discussions confirmed a major shift: the question is no longer whether Africa should industrialize, but how quickly — and with which partners — it will do so.
At the end of the first day of meetings and discussions, Choiseul Africa brought together nearly 300 African, European, and French decision-makers during a cocktail reception held at the Fairmont Nairobi. The evening was marked by direct exchanges, lasting connections, and a shared conviction: Africa is entering a new phase of economic and industrial co-construction.
During the “Africa Forward” Summit, $23 billion in commitments were announced across the energy, AI, infrastructure, and agriculture sectors, including more than $10 billion led by African stakeholders themselves.
The message was clear: far from being viewed merely as a field of opportunity from the outside, Africa is now asserting itself as an economic power that co-finances, co-industrializes, and co-decides.
In Nairobi, discussions confirmed a deeper trend: a continent determined to define its industrial, energy, and technological priorities on its own terms.
